How has Sponsor-A-Scholar impacted your life?
It is tough to quantify how much of an impact Sponsor-A-Scholar has had on me because it feels like it has influenced almost every facet of my life. The program is very well designed - it fights a two front war on the main obstacles faced by underprivileged youth entering adulthood - finances and confidence. Because of my Sponsor, some of the monetary stress of college has been alleviated for me, which has allowed me to focus more on my studies. I have also grown through my experiences with the mentorship side of the program. From conversations about social and political issues to helping show us the essential strategies of presenting ourselves in a formal setting, my mentor, Matthew Smalls, has always been there to engage with my brother and me as mature individuals with a sense of purpose.

How has Sponsor-A-Scholar impacted your life?
There are two main ways that Sponsor-A-Scholar has impacted me. First, the financial aid provided by Sponsor-A-Scholar has helped to decrease some of the financial pressure that college puts on most students. Lowering my need to work long hours to earn money has allowed me more time to focus on my studies. Additionally, Sponsor-A-Scholar has given me opportunities to meet many people that I know I wouldn't have otherwise; students, professionals, and, of course, my mentor Matthew Smalls. Matthew and all of the other people I've met have provided me with valuable advice and all-important professional connections. I know my potential to succeed has increased tremendously because of my participation in Sponsor-A-Scholar.
