Note to Scholars about Stipend Reporting

CRSAS-0665.jpg

We recently heard from a mentor of a soon-to-be college freshman about the specific ways that their student should be reporting their Sponsor-A- Scholar stipend to the college financial aid office. In light of the fact that this is a key issue that many students may be facing, I wanted to be sure everyone knew the answer.

The stipend is not a scholarship and should not be reported to the student's college financial aid office.

It is specifically designed so that it can be used by the Scholar for whatever needs may arise during the semester.

In fact, if a Scholar reports the stipend to the financial aid office unnecessarily, the value of the stipend may be deducted from the Scholar's overall financial aid package for the year.
