Scholar2Scholar: 2017 Holiday Homecoming

On Wednesday, January 11th, we welcomed more than 130 Scholars, alumni, mentors and donors to our 2017 Holiday Homecoming celebration. The event honors returning college Scholars and offers an opportunity for networking and connections with other Scholars, alumni and our community partners and donors.

Kathleen Pingelski, owner of MicroKnowledge and ProKnowledge, delivered a keynote address about the importance of grit and dedication.

We also welcomed a panel of our accomplished alumni, moderated by Greg Stapleton, board member and marketing manager for the Times Union.

The panel, pictured above with Mr. Stapleton included: Jesse Rawson, Albany High School alum, graduate of The College of Saint Rose; Camellia Loojune, Schenectady High School alumna, graduate of Syracuse University; Miguel Roel, Troy High School alum, graduate of Skidmore College and Clarkson University Graduate School and Kolel Pryor, Albany High School alum, graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology.

They offered some key advice for our current Scholars:

Miguel: "Do the most with what you have."

Camellia: "Be vulnerable in college.Try new things, study abroad. You really have nothing to lose."

Jesse: "Those who are your closest 'family' may not be blood-related."

Kolel: "College is hard. Don't lose touch with your passions. Find something that keeps you excited and motivated."
