Over the past few weeks, our high school students visited SUNY Oneonta, St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University and Albany Medical College. These visits help to expand our Scholars' horizons and help to sharpen their focus for the future.
The Troy and Schenectady participants who visited Albany Medical College did so as part of our ongoing Career Exploration program with Albany Medical Center saw the library, a histology lab (where medical students learn about the microscopic structure of cells), a lecture hall, an anatomy lab and the student lounge. Their tour guides, second-year medical students, Garrett and Jake, were helpful and forthcoming about the realities and challenges of life as medical students.
During a question and answer session, our Scholars asked what motivated the medical students to pursue their careers; they also posed questions about finding funding for medical school, and overcoming the challenges of the difficult coursework and heavy workload.
We have many more visits planned for the coming weeks and months.
