Troy Graduate Wins Prestigious Scholarship

We were elated to learn that Narelys Chum, recent Troy High School Graduate and current SUNY New Paltz student was one of five students to win the prestigious Carey Gabay Scholarship, named for a slain aide of Governor Andrew Cuomo who lost his life due to gun violence. The scholarship is for disadvantaged students currently attending a SUNY school, who have shown exemplary leadership in their communities. Narelys and the other scholarship winners will receive full four-year scholarships, including tuition, room and board and personal expenses.

Narelys said "I feel so honored to be able given the opportunity to carry on someone's legacy. Good things can happen, even in a difficult time."

For more on the scholarship, read the Times Union's article from September 5 or the press release from the Governor's office.
