Early 2018 Activities for Mentors and Mentees

Here are a few free and low-cost events for mentors and Scholars to try over the coming months. Be sure to snap some photos of yourselves having fun and share them with us!


Empire Skate Plaza

What: Skate for Free at the Plaza! There is a snack bar to re-charge after getting on the ice! This beautiful outdoor ice-rink offers you and your mentee beautiful views of the Capital of New York!

Join WMHT Public Media, The Albany Public Library, and community partners for a free Indie Lens Pop-Up screening of Tell Them We Are Rising, a film by Stanley Nelson.

Tell Them We Are Rising explores the pivotal role historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have played over the course of 150 years in American history, culture, and identity. This film reveals the rich history of HBCUs and the power of higher education to transform lives and advance civil rights and equality in the face of injustice.

Screening will be followed by a facilitated conversation. This event will be held in the auditorium of the library.

Black Family Technology Awareness Day

Rensselaer will host the 18th Black Family Technology Awareness Day program on Saturday, February 3. The daylong STEM event is designed to expose area students, their families, and educators to educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), as well as the arts. The event is free and open to the public. The program will be held on campus from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. This year's theme is titled "Be a Force for STEM."

What: Escape the cold and  enjoy the indoor farmers market!

When: Saturdays from 9-2

Where:  Troy Atrium, 4 3rd St, Troy, NY 12180

Cost: Free to walk around and enjoy the music. Try a pretzel or fresh cider or juice with your Scholar!


Blaze Pizza Fundraiser

What: Enjoy pizza with your mentee for a great cause! Just show the image below at the event.

When: Wednesday, March 21st from 5-8pm
