Mentor & Mentee Activities for Spring

What: I Love My Park Day 2017
Spend time volunteering with your Scholar in the great outdoors! Projects include trail maintenance, picnic table assembly and painting, planting trees and gardens, and much more. Volunteering together is a great way to build your mentoring relationship and help build your Scholar’s college resume at the same time!

Where: Many local parks, including Thatcher, Peebles, Five Rivers, and more!
When: Saturday, May 6th; times vary by location
Cost: Free!

What: Family Cooking

Family Cooking is a great activity to do with your Scholar. Children and adults cook together to learn kitchen techniques and have fun! After the interactive cooking class the dish (stuffed french toast and hash browns—YUM!) is served for everyone to enjoy together.

When: Sunday, May 7th
Cost: $20/person

What: Albany Tulip Festival   

Featuring annual traditions rooted in the city’s Dutch heritage, nearly one hundred artisans selling handmade crafts, a fine arts show, delicious food, the KidZone destination, two stages of live entertainment and more than 140,000 tulips!

Where: Washington Park, 1 New Scotland Ave, Albany NY 12208
When: Saturday, May 13th & Sunday (Mother’s Day), May 14th; 11am-6pm

What: Schenectady Green Market    

Enjoy live music, prepared food and the region’s freshest local produce at the Greenmarket. With more than 60 vendors to explore, you and your Scholar are bound to have fun! The Market takes place inside Proctors until the end of April and moves outside behind Schenectady City Hall at the beginning of May.

What: Troy Night Out

Troy Night Out is a monthly arts and cultural event that regularly draws thousands of people onto the streets of Downtown Troy. You and your Scholar can enjoy art events, live music, and restaurants in bustling downtown Troy. April’s theme is Earth Day and May’s theme is Family Day.

Where: Downtown Troy
When: The last Friday of every month from 5pm-9pm
Cost: Free!
