We like to jump-start our Scholars’ summer with a 2-day event we call Confidence into Action. This is the second year we’ve offered this program, and we’ve expanded it to our rising high school juniors—so we welcomed more than 60 Scholars at the two-day event on June 27 and 28th this year.
Scholars learned about health and wellness, working with mentors, interviewing skills and financial literacy. They heard from a panel of Sponsor-A-Scholar college students who shared some hard-won wisdom about the challenges of college life which included the importance of time management, setting boundaries and also staying in touch with your family.
They also played pirate games and learned about power poses that can literally help boost confidence in your brain!
As Juliana, a rising junior shared with us: “These workshops don’t hold back. They’re telling us how hard it will be in college. I’m glad to know this, and I know I still want to go.”
We also heard about Scholars’ summer plans, which include hanging out with mentors and friends, taking part in summer programs and working. We can’t wait to see you all in September!
Special thanks to Cap Com Cares Foundation for providing the lead underwriting support of this event and Hudson Valley Community College for hosting us again this year.
