Marty is a life-long area resident who is married and has two children. He has worked as a school counselor at Albany High School since 2000 and has been an academic coordinator with Sponsor A Scholar since 2002. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Communications from the College of Saint Rose and then returned to earn his Masters in Education.
Marty enjoys working with students and families throughout the college and career search process and loves to hear from past graduates. In fact, several of his students have gone into the education field and are currently working for the Albany School District.
Business Manager

Linda is the Business Manager at Sponsor-A-Scholar. She is the staff member with the longest tenure of service. She has many responsibilities, but chief among them is making sure that Scholar’s stipend requests are processed promptly. After working at Bell Atlantic for 24 years of, she joined Sponsor-A-Scholar in 1997 as the Program Assistant. Later, she became the Business Manager. She enjoys working with staff, Board of Directors and meeting Scholars when they come into the office to pick up their stipend checks. Linda lives with her husband in Colonie, NY. They have two sons, one daughter & three grandchildren who keep them very busy.

Laura has over 23 years of fundraising and non-profit management experience working with various organizations in the Capital Region. She holds both bachelor’s and Master of Arts degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University. While she enjoys working with all age populations, she is passionate about working with youth and making sure they have the resources and skills to reach their full potential. Laura resides in East Greenbush, NY with her husband and three children.
College Access Manager

Miguel is a recent graduate of Siena College and an alumnus of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar’s Albany program at Albany High School. He works with our High School Scholars and Mentors. He studied Psychology in college and has experience in diversity training, managing workshops, and logistics. He is interested in groupthink, personality development, and social influence. He is passionate about access to higher education and personal development.

Aaron comes from Albany NY and is a graduate of Albany high School. Aaron then took his talents to SUNY Potsdam where he earned a degree in Theatre with a concentration in African American theatre. He will be working closely with our College Scholars, mentors and alumni. Aaron is also a trained Anti-Racism and diversity trainer and facilitates workshops both locally and regionally. He has volunteered with the Albany High School theatre arts program, Youth FX, The African American Cultural Center, Proctors, and many more. “I feel it’s my passion and responsibility to give back where I can and I feel that Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar will help me fulfill my goal. I’m very excited to be a part of the organization and work to make an impact.”

Marcy has more than 15 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector for progressive causes including education, public radio and environmental policy. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and studied abroad at the University of Sussex. She is passionate about working with students, and mentors a Scholar in her spare time. Marcy lives with her husband and young son in Troy, NY. She likes cooking, hiking and exploring art museums.
